gmtc presents ‘exercises in support’ by kyong kim

what does it mean to support an artwork — not only in matter, but in gesture, time, and attention?

architect kyong kim, who has been designing exhibitions in museum contexts, will spend her residency at gmtc nyc in chinatown from november to december 2025, exploring the architectures of support that underlie artistic and institutional life — through object-making, conversation, and performance.

beginning with a communal survey-performance of the gmtc space, the residency will culminate in a performance and open studio, shaped by dialogues with peers in and around museums — including conservators, curators, designers, mount makers, and art packers.

performances and conversations will unfold in the following weeks — announced via instagram and newsletter.

kyong kim is a korean-born, new york-based architect whose practice sits at the intersection of art and architecture, spanning object-making, exhibition design, and installation.
